The Gareth Scotcher Trust...

Born in Hemel near London, Gareth moved to Tenby when he was eight years old. He is still there and loves it. Gareth has two great kids - Dylan and Daisy.

Gareth was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2003 and the trust has been set up by close friends to improve the quality of life for Gareth and his family and offer opportunities that have simply been taken away.

If you would like to donate to the trust there will be links posted on this site very soon and please - if you are out and about on 26th December, come along and enjoy the game. It is a family event as the game is just a bit of fun and all in the name of a good cause.

A Message from Gareth

I am looking forward to the annual game when the Young Guns take on the Old Heads once again. I have heard on the grapevine that the Oldies are confident of gaining revenge this year, if my wheelchair had 4WD I would be tempted to play myself, I couldn't be much slower than Chris (Niffy) Brace!

I had some good times playing. I remember Jeremy (Longy) Rossitter striding in from 25 yards like a scarred giraffe. Or Chris (Mayor of Saundersfoot) Williams getting a brace of tries, when we returned to the club someone asked me "How did he finish them?", I replied "Very slowly!". And who could forget Gerald (Nez) Brace tackle - the fact that the guy was walking to take drop out, hardly seems to matter. When you play rugby, sure you try to win, but more importantly it's about making good memories and good friends. And the Boxing Day match seems to sum up that sentiment perfectly.

I have had MND for over seven years now. It's a pretty cruel illness, but the help and support I have received has made mine and the family's life so much easier. I always amazed by peoples generosity, and of course very grateful. Unlikely as it sounds, I consider myself lucky; I have fantastic kids, great family and great friends. Anyway, nowadays I always get a seat and put a compost bin over my wheelchair and I am ready for any fancy dress party as a Dalek!

The Boxing Day game is a great event, with many people giving up their time and effort - come along... walk off that dinner! Enjoy the feast of running rugby, with the past and future of Tenby Club going head to head.

Keep Smiling

Gareth Scotcher
